WordQuizPool

Word Quiz Pool (WQP) is a smartphone application designed and developed by Adam Stone to help students practice both receptive and productive vocabulary knowledge. It aims to improve both the accuracy and clarity of learners’ English sentence composition.
Students create and upload sentences using words from a prescribed word list. Other students can view these sentences, but the target word is hidden and becomes the answer in a cloze-style quiz. They then select the word that best completes the sentence. Both the creator and the solver earn points based on how quickly the correct answer is chosen. This system encourages clarity in expressing the meaning of each word.
Teachers can also evaluate each sentence, influencing the creator’s score and promoting greater accuracy.
Designed to supplement classroom instruction, WQP is a multiplayer, long-form, cross-platform game available on iPhone, Android, and web browsers. All students in a class can participate simultaneously throughout the semester. WQP is a cooperative, non-zero-sum game: all students can achieve the highest score without requiring others to lose.
Teachers can monitor student progress and grading directly within the app, and a companion website supports course and class setup and management. WQP has been used in English classes at Japanese universities since its initial release on the Apple App Store on October 25, 2021.
